Our Blog Design Team loves to really get inky and creative and we were thrilled when Wanda Guess wanted to feature some fun products that Taylor has hand picked for the TE Store. We’re delighted to present Wanda’s gorgeous canvas. To help get you to started creating your own piece of inspiration, we’re having a GIVEAWAY! Read on for details and enjoy!
Wanda’s Notes: Hi everyone! Wanda here with a really fun craft project today! Taylored Expressions stocks beautiful stencils and papers from Hazel & Ruby and I wanted to showcase these products with a neat canvas project that you can make for your home, or to use as a gift! I am going to hang my canvas in my craft room…and you’ll see why!

Wanda’s Notes: To start with, you will need your canvas in the size you want, Mod Podge, Acrylic Craft Paint, papers and stencils from Hazel & Ruby, and your imagination! The sky is the limit with what you can make. (Some other ideas I had were – personalizing a child’s room, a wedding present with the couple’s names and the date, a housewarming present….)
Wanda’s Notes: Take your Hazel & Ruby paper and lay it down on the canvas, leaving room on all the sides to fold over. Try to smooth out the wrinkles with your hand or a scraper tool. You will see that my project has wrinkles in it – and I’m loving that look. It’s really a matter of preference. After your paper is on the canvas, wrap the paper around the back like a present. (Later I covered the back of my canvas with a piece of 12×12 paper to finish it off nicely).
Wanda’s Notes: Then, add a coat of Mod Podge onto the top of the paper with a sponge brush and let it dry completely.

Wanda’s Notes: After your canvas/paper is dry, take your stencil letters and put them on the canvas to spell out your words. I used washi tape to make a straight line and then put my letters on the tape! Press your letters down into the paper to get a clean edge. (For reference on the size of the letters, my canvas is 12″x12″.)

Wanda’s Notes: The next part is the really fun part! Take your craft paint (I used a soft cloud blue) and paint over your letters with a sponge brush.

Wanda’s Notes: Here’s a trick – take your letters off right away – before the paint dries. If the paint dries, the letters might stick to the canvas. Now….wait for it to dry and decorate further if you want to!

Wanda’s Notes: I love the clean and graphic look of the letters on the square. I thought about adding all kinds of things to my canvas, but then decided I liked it with just a couple of butterflies cut with our Elegant Butterflies dies.

Have fun with this! Live. Love. Craft.
